Three Unique Things About the 2012 International AIDS Conference
- It’s the first time in 20+ years the International AIDS Conference is in the US, because the entry ban for non-US citizens with HIV was only recently lifted.
- It’s taking place in Washington D.C., the US city with the highest HIV prevalence, higher than that of some African countries.
- It’s happening at a time when the scientific advances have shown that treatment is also prevention, stimulating scientific and political leaders to claim that ending the HIV epidemic is now a realistic goal. But large funding gaps threaten the gains already made and limit the potential to capitalize on the latest scientific progress.
MSF will be at the International AIDS Conference presenting field research from our HIV programs, speaking at events and moderating sessions. We’ll be pushing key messages on scale-up and ARV pricing, backed up by research being presented and released at the conference. (More info on where and when we’ll this is all happening is here.)
